Woori Card Wins 10 First… Hyundai E&C has won 5 consecutive games

Woori Card, the men’s professional volleyball team, reached the 10th win mark of the season.

Woori Card beat OK Financial Group (25-21 21-25 25-19 28-30 15-13) in the third round of the Dodram V-League men’s third round at Sangnoksu Gymnasium in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province on Sunday. Woori Card has been on the rise for two consecutive wins in recent months.

It is the team’s first win in this season against OK Financial Group, which lost in both the first and second rounds. Woori Card became the first player in men’s category to achieve 10 wins (three losses), maintaining its No. 1 ranking with 27 points. It widened the gap with second-ranked Korean Air by two points.

On the other hand, OK Financial Group ended its two-game winning streak with eight wins, five losses and 22 points. However, it gained one point to beat out Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance (21 points) to rank third.

Woori Card’s biggest contributor was Mattei Kok, a foreign player who scored 42 points, the most for both teams. Mattei led the team’s offense by scoring two blocks and four serve points. Han Sung-jung and Kim Ji-han also contributed with 16 points and 14 points, respectively.

OK Financial Group’s main gun Leo scored 38 points, the most in the team, and Song Hee-chae scored 23 points, but failed to prevent the team’s defeat. In the last five sets, he gave up three consecutive points in a 12-11 lead, kneeling due to a lack of backside.

In a women’s game held at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the same day, Hyundai E&C crushed GS Caltex with a set score of 3 to 0 (25-23 25-17 25-19). With the victory, Hyundai E&C continued its five-game winning streak.

Hyundai E&C, which had nine wins, four losses and 29 points, maintained the second place. It closely trailed Heungkuk Life Insurance, which had one fewer game, by one point.

Hyundai Engineering & Construction led the attack with 23 points, the most by both teams. Veteran middle blocker Yang Hyo-jin backed up with 17 points.

Zupo Silva scored 16 points and Kang 12 points, but failed to win a single set and GS Caltex fell apart. GS Caltex, which lost the game, maintained its third place with eight wins and five losses (22 points).
