“Heung-min Son’s influence, I’ve known for a long time”…Kane fills in the blank perfectly
Son Heung-min’s (Tottenham) striker transformation has been a success so far.
Tottenham hosts Chelsea on Sunday (Nov. 7) in the 11th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League season.
Spurs are cruising to start the season. They lead the league with eight wins and two draws after 10 games. Before this season, the future of Spurs wasn’t so positive.
The negatives were more prevalent. This was due to the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and the arrival of manager Enzi Postecoglou, who had no managerial experience in the big leagues.
However, the Spurs are not faltering. They’re currently riding a wave of momentum, finishing better than they did last season. They’re even the favorites to win the league.
At the center of Spurs’ rise is Son Heung-min, who is second in the league with eight goals. After a slow start to the season, Son’s transition from left winger to frontline striker has been a complete transformation. He has scored a whopping eight goals in seven games up front, and his goal-scoring ability has been outstanding.
In a press conference ahead of the Chelsea game, Postecoglou revealed that he had known about Son’s goal-scoring ability for eight years, referring to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final.
Postecoglou led Australia to the 2015 Asian Cup, where they met South Korea in the final and won 2-1 in extra time. Son Heung-min scored the game-winning goal in stoppage time to send the match into extra time after being down 0-1.
“He scored against me at the 2015 Asian Cup,” Postecoglou said, “so I didn’t need to find any other proof that he’s a great goalie.”
“The idea of bringing in a player in the transfer market who would score 25 or 30 goals in his first year as a replacement for Kane was not realistic,” says Postecoglou, who has 토토사이트 used Son as his frontline striker since Kane’s departure.
Postecoglou chose Son Heung-min. Heung-Min had done a good job in the past when Kane was out with injury.
“I’ve been watching him for a long time and I know he’s a great goalscorer, he’s a smart player,” he said, “He’s got great movement. He has the ability to press, and I love that quality in a striker.”
