Han Yoo-seom’s 2-homer, 7-RBI performance against Doosan

SSG Landers veteran outfielder Han Yoo-seom (35) had an extremely rough start to the 2023 season. By mid-season, his batting struggles were so bad that he was sent down to the second team.

This year, however, is different. With four home runs in the first nine games, he’s done his job as a center fielder. In a game against the Doosan Bears on Feb. 2, he had two home runs and seven RBIs in the win.

SSG took a commanding 13-6 victory over Doosan in the 2024 Shinhan Bank SOL Bank KBO League at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on Sunday.

Song Young-jin gave up four runs in 2⅔ innings of work, but the team was able to pull off the upset thanks to home runs from Choi Jung-jeong, Park Sung-sung, Han Yoo-seom, and Ha Jae-hoon.

Han Yoo-seom was the hero of the day, hitting a come-from-behind three-run homer with runners on first and third in the fourth inning. In the eighth inning, with a slim 8-6 lead, he hit a game-winning grand slam to sink Dusan. It was Han’s ninth career grand slam.

After going 5-for-5 with three doubles, two home runs, and seven RBIs, Han was named the game’s Player of the Game.

Speaking to the media after the game, a somewhat dazed Han said, “I didn’t expect it. I’m dumbfounded,” she said and smiled shyly.

“Both at-bats, I had runners on third and fourth, so I thought I’d try to hit a sacrifice fly to give myself a chance, but I hit it to center field and it went for a home run,” Han said. I’m happy to hit two home runs in one game after a long time.”

Prior to this game, Han had two home runs and a .138 batting average. Today’s performance raised his average to .206.

“I was impatient at the beginning of last year when I had a very bad start, but it didn’t make a difference,” he said. “This year, I’m not going to focus too much on the record. “My seniors 토토 always say, ‘A good player will eventually find his place even if he’s not doing well,’ but even if I’m not doing well, the other players are doing well, so I’m going to take it easy,” he explained.

After four straight wins, SSG currently sits in fourth place with a 6-3 record. It’s not a bad start for a team that wasn’t considered a top-five contender before the season.

However, Han Yoo-seom said, “It’s early days, so we don’t put much importance on the rankings. We just want to do our best in one game at a time,” he said, emphasizing, “Baseball is not favorable, but I also want to keep the good feeling going.”

Meanwhile, manager Lee Sung-yong said, “The first credit for today’s victory goes to (Han) Yoo-seom, who has been struggling with his batting form, but today will be a chance for him to come back to life.” “If he comes back to life, our team will be stronger,” he added.
