Arsenal have set their sights on a new striker.

“Arsenal are keen on signing Victor Yokerez (25, Sporting) to bolster their attacking lineup this summer,” Portuguese outlet Avola reported on Thursday.

Arsenal are one of the favorites to win the Premier League this season. After 26 games in the league, they are currently in third place with 58 points, having won 18, drawn four and lost four.

That’s not without its flaws. While a wide variety of players have contributed to the team’s goals, it’s been pointed out that the strikeforce hasn’t been as prolific as some of its rivals.

The record backs this up. Arsenal currently have no players in their squad with more than 20 goals. Only Xhaka (22) has more than 16. He’s also the only player in the league with double-digit goals.

Finding a new striker has become a challenge for Arsenal. Gabriel Jesus (26) has been plagued by injuries this season, so the argument is that the Gunners need to sign a striker to replace him.

Yokers has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal. According to the report, the Gunners, who were initially interested in Ivan Toney, have now shifted their focus to Yokers.

Yokers is considered one of the best strikers in the world this season. A striker with superior physical attributes, he is praised for his ability to compete and his keen eye for goal.

He also has an impressive record. In all competitions this season, Yokers has 32 goals and 11 assists in 35 games. In the league alone, his 18 goals and seven assists were enough to classify him as one of the best in Europe.

He has even been labeled as the future of the Swedish national team. After making his A-League debut in 2019, Jokeres played in both of Sweden’s A-League matches last November.

The interest from other clubs is growing. Not only Arsenal but also Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been linked with a move for the player.

“Sporting will not allow him to leave unless there is a buyout offer of €100 million,” says Abola.
