SIHEUNG WAVE PARK TO HOST ‘2023 WORLD SURF LEAGUE INTERNATIONAL SURFING COMPETITION’

Siheung City, Gyeonggi Province, announced on Nov. 21 that it has been confirmed to host the 2023 World Surf League (WSL) International Surfing Competition at Wave Park, the world’s largest artificial surfing venue. The ‘2023 World Surf League Gyeonggi Siheung International Surfing Competition’, which will be held from November 17 to 19, is a ‘qualifying series’ competition for the World Surf League, where 170 overseas athletes and officials from more than 10 countries will compete for points to qualify for the Challenger Series.The event is hosted by Siheung City and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Gyeonggi Province .Founded in 1976, the World Surf League is the world’s largest and most prestigious professional surfing competition. The city has been conducting ongoing bidding activities, including multiple site visits with World Surf League officials, to secure the event for the first time in Korea. “We expect the hosting of this international surfing competition to serve as a cornerstone for Turtle Island with its wave park to become a global marine leisure center,” said Siheung Mayor Lim Byung-taek. “We will do our best to expand and revitalize the base of surfing, which is an Olympic sport but is less 스포츠토토존 popular than other sports, and develop surfing culture.”
