PRO BASKETBALL TEAM KT SELECTS KU FORWARD MOON JUNG-HYUN WITH FIRST OVERALL PICK IN ROOKIE CLASS

Professional basketball team Suwon KT has selected forward Moon Jung-hyun (194.2 cm) from Korea University with the first overall pick in the rookie draft .KT head coach Song Young-jin called out Moon’s name as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 KBL Rookie Draft held at Jamsil Student Gymnasium in Songpa-gu, Seoul on Nov. 21.It is the third consecutive year KT has selected a KU player in the first round .After selecting Ha Yoon-ki in 2021 and Lee Doo-won last year, Moon will continue his career with the KU seniors .KU’s fourth-year forward has already been recognized for his skills as a member of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games team. He missed last week’s combine due to Asian Games commitments and measured in at 194.2 centimeters in height and 198 centimeters in wingspan this morning. Moon is considered to be a versatile player with excellent ball handling and the ability to read the game flow. In the Korea University Sports Federation (KUSF) College Basketball U-League last year, he led Korea University to the title and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP).”I’m grateful to KT and coach Song Young-jin,” Moon said to his tearful mother in the audience, “Don’t cry, mom. I’ll make you happy and earn a lot of money,” he said. “I also want to thank (his brother) Moon Yoo-hyun (KU). I want to thank coach Chu Il-seung, who is a gentleman on the court. I also thank and love my older brothers on the national team who love me like the youngest.” “There is no one happier than me today,” Moon said, but he added, “I will enjoy happiness only until today, and I will enjoy (greater) happiness by winning KT after the season.”The second-ranked Ulsan Hyundai Mobis selected KU guard Park Mubin (184.4 cm).Park has earned a reputation as one of the best offensive guards in the league for keeping the ball in his hands, and is known for his offensive prowess and ability to cut through defenses .In the KUSF U-League Finals, Park was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) after recording 17 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. “I’m grateful to coach Cho Dong-hyun and everyone at the club. I will be successful in the pros and be filial to my family,” he said. “I will not lose the faith of Hyundai Mobis, who ranked me so high.” Changwon LG, who had the third pick, called on Yonsei guard Yoo Yoo-sang (188.0 cm).Considered one of the best big men’s shooters in the game, Yoo comes from a long line of athletes .Yoo’s father is the head coach of the women’s national soft tennis team, Yoo Young-dong (NH Bank).Yoo was a “signature star” of soft tennis at the Asian Games, winning five gold medals during her career, including three in Busan in 2002.”I’m grateful to be selected by the team I wanted to come to,” Yoo said, “I will go to the pros and soar across the KBL satge like a soaring eagle (Yonsei’s symbol) with a humble and passionate attitude.”With that, the names of the draft’s “big three” – Moon Jung-hyun, Park Mubin, and Yoo Yoo-sang – were all called 안전놀이터 within the top three spots.
