Professional basketball team Wonju DB defeated Seoul Samsung to extend its winning streak to seven games to open the season.

DB defeated Samsung 94-58 in a home game in the 2023-2024 regular season of the Korean Basketball League at Wonju General Gymnasium in Gangwon Province on Sunday.

With their opening seven-game winning streak, DB extended their lead over the second-place teams to three games.

With a win against Anyang Jeonggwanjang on Tuesday, DB, which is coached by Kim Joo-sung since this season, will tie the record for the longest opening streak in professional basketball (eight).

The opening eight-game winning streak was achieved by DB’s predecessor, Wonju Eastern, in 2011-2012 and Goyang Sono’s predecessor, Goyang Orion, in 2014-2015.

The victory also marked DB’s seventh straight opening win in 12 years since the 2011-2012 season and its seventh straight regular season win in two years and one month since October 2021.

Leading 44-33 at halftime, DB took control early, holding Samsung to just one point in the first four minutes of the third quarter before scoring 16 unanswered points to take a 60-34 lead.

By the end of the fourth quarter, the score was 88-48, and the lead had grown to a whopping 40 points.

DB was led by captain Kang Sang-jae with 18 points, while Lee Sun Albano recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists.

The loss was Samsung’s 16th straight on the road.

In Anyang, the hosts defeated Busan KCC 74-72 to improve to 4-3 and move into a tie for second place with Changwon LG and Ulsan Hyundai Mobis.

Trailing by one point at 71-72, Park Ji-hoon hit a game-winning three-pointer with 14 seconds left in regulation.

KCC made a last-ditch offense, and Alize DeShawn Johnson tried to answer with a three-pointer in the final seconds, but it fell short, leaving them with a two-point deficit.

For Jeonggwanjang, Lens Abando (16 points) and Park Ji-hoon (15 points) led the offense in the win.
