Marek Schulup will play for the Yomiuri Giants
Czech Republic outfielder Marek Schulup, who will represent the Czech Republic at the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), will play for the Yomiuri Giants of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB).
“The Yomiuri Giants have agreed to sign Marek Schlup to a developmental player contract, wearing number 037,” the club announced on Friday.
Schlup, a right-handed hitting outfielder born in 1999 in the Czech Republic, spent two years in the American Independent League, starting last year, batting .400 with 110 hits, 2.775 doubles, 16 home runs, 68 RBI, 29 doubles and an .844 OPS in 114 games.
Last year, he played in four games at third base for the Czech Republic at the WBC, batting 3-for-12 with three doubles and four RBIs.
