Jacque Vaughn named Nets coach after Ime Udoka scrutiny
Jacque Vaughn is the new head coach of the Brooklyn Nets.
Brooklyn announced Wednesday that Vaughn, who was acting as interim head coach, will remain at the helm for the rest of the season.
Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that Vaughn’s promotion comes with a 2023-24 season contract.
Vaughn was named head coach of the Chicago Bulls game that day, but it didn’t take long for other names to appear as replacement candidates.
Brooklyn was strongly criticized for turning its attention so quickly to Udoka, who was removed from a six-week suspension for multiple violations of Boston’s code of conduct, including allegations of “unwanted comments” and “raw language” towards a subordinate with whom he had an inappropriate intimate relationship.e. Boston Brass was ready to let Udoka go to Brooklyn.
Meanwhile, Celtic players were as confused as the rest of the league.
“Obviously we wish he were here,” Marcus Smart told the Boston Globe of Udoka last week. “We have no control over it. That’s definitely a shame. I think it was judged that everything that happened was enough for him not to be the coach here, but I don’t think he [can’t] be a coach anywhere else.
The time of the movie was very long from the beginning as the Nets had not hired the Udoka crew. The time was very long from the beginning and the time was very long from the beginning.
While Udoka continued to be Durant and Brooklyn General Manager Sean Marks’ top pick, longtime NBA reporter Marc Stein called for “strong voices” on Nets owner Joe Tsai to step away from Udoka. Whether these votes came from inside, out of the NBA, or inside the league offices remains in question.
Whatever it was, this test forced us to quote in the team’s press release.
“Jack’s basketball skills, competitiveness and intimate knowledge of our team and organization make him the clearest person who can lead our group forward,” Marx said. “He has a proven ability to extract the best from our players, hold them accountable and play in a cohesive, team-style basketball.”
Won, who played 12 seasons for five different NBA franchises, including the Nets, led Brooklyn to a 2-2 record in four games, since taking over for the Nash. He also led the exhausted network on an interim basis for the last 10 games of the 2019-20 season and the first round of the away playoffs, following the shooting of Kenny Atkinson. Wongn set a record of 58-158 in three seasons as head coach of Orlando Magic from 2012 to 15. Over the past eight years, he has worked as a network assistant covering four head coaches.
Brooklyn is now setting Vaughn one of the league’s most difficult tasks. Ben Simmons, Durant, and Irving, assuming that he will eventually join the Nets, are the three most salaried players in the NBA. An uncomfortable list around them gave the bottom ten defense and mid-range attack during the first 11 games of the season, despite the presence of Durant, one of his generation’s great bombers.
Networks do not take a serious playoff threat, and Vaughn’s core work may be more focused on selling Durant and Irving for the future in Brooklyn than on hoping for this season.
