Girl group Weki Meki announced its disbandment after its seven-year K-pop journey, with its final digital single slated for release on June 12.

On Friday, the group’s agency Fantagio confirmed that Weki Meki would bid farewell with a new digital single titled “CoinciDestiny.” 추천 This release marks the group’s first new song in two years and seven months since its fifth mini album “I AM ME.”

The agency explained that the title “CoinciDestiny” is a blend of the words “coincide” and “destiny,” symbolizing that “while Weki Meki and its fans met by chance, they were destined to unite.”

Weki Meki debuted in 2017 as an eight-member act, featuring Choi Yoo-jung and Kim Do-yeon from I.O.I., the final debut group of Mnet’s “Produce 101.” Elly and Sei, who also participated in the survival show, joined them in the lineup.

The group has been known for its vibrant and lively songs, including “I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend,” “La La La” and “Picky Picky.” However, the members have pursued individual paths since the group’s last release in November 2021.

Kim was rumored to be dating actor Gong Myung this February. Similar rumors surfaced two years ago, but both their agencies responded that “the dating rumors are not true and the two are just close industry colleagues.”

Kim has been pursuing an acting career with roles in television dramas such as “Jirisan” (2021) and “One the Woman” (2021), while Choi recently ventured into the theatrical scene with the Korean musical “Hero.”

Elly appeared on Mnet’s 2023 survival program “Queendom Puzzle,” which aimed to form a project girl group with current or former girl band members. However, she was eliminated in the final round.
