The tournament was held across seven categories, including U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U15, and U18, with overseas teams from the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and Mongolia participating in the tournament. Specifically, KXO said, “The Super Cup, which was launched to develop youth basketball in Korea, has been well received by the Korean youth basketball community with the second edition of the tournament. The tournament was quickly confirmed thanks to the united efforts of organizing committee chairwoman Choi Hee-am, Pocheon Mayor Baek Young-hyun, Pocheon Sports Chairman Jung Jong-geun, and KXO Chairman Kwon Ki-bok to secure diversity in Korean youth basketball. The Super Cup, which is a great opportunity for Korean teams to play against various international teams, is planned to be held at least twice a year to help secure the international competitiveness of Korean youth basketball. The organizers’ intentions have attracted a wide range of Korean youth basketball clubs, including Samsung, KCC, SK, DB, Pyeongtaek Kimhoon, Assist, and Songdo TOP. The NH Bank 2024 Global Youth Basketball Super Cup started on the 12th, and the competition was fierce throughout the three days with the participating teams’ serious participation attitude and high level of play. Out of the 80 participating teams, Bundang Samsung won three championships, followed by SK, who stood at the top of two categories. Among the overseas participants, the Sendai 89ers won the U15 category.”
Pocheon City Mayor Baek Young-hyun, who worked hard to organize the event, said, “Sports are the best welfare for citizens. In my second year in office, I am focusing on expanding sports infrastructure. Various overseas athletes from the United States, Japan, Taiwan, Mongolia, and other countries visited Pocheon for this tournament. It was refreshing to see the games on the field. I hope that Korean youths will continue to grow into leaders by interacting with the world through the Super Cup.”
Choi Hee-am, chairperson of the tournament organizing committee, said, “The second Super Cup was successfully completed thanks to the cooperation of the officials and participating players. We will continue to strive to revitalize Korean youth basketball through the Super Cup and make it a stepping stone for the development of Korean basketball. After completing the second Super Cup this year, KXO will now begin preparations to host the second FIBA 3×3 Challenger in October, which will be held in Korea this year.”
